The sales of the Giulia & Stelvio declined by more than 20%
Most people know that Alfa Romeo’s 2014 return to America after a 19-year absence has not met FCA’s expectations. If we look at the sales chart, 2019 was a terrible year for the iconic Italian brand. The Stelvio SUV was not enough to help Alfa, as the BMW X3 rival’s sales plummeted 22% to 9,444 units. The Giulia sedan also saw a significant sales drop last year, as demand fell by 24% to 8,704 units.
The 4C saw the largest percentage drop in sales, as it was only 144 people who bought the car. This is a decrease of 39% from 2018. It’s worth noting that Alfa Romeo USA has discontinued the 4C Coupe model year 2018, leaving only the 4C Spider for those who want a fast, mid-engined Italian performance vehicle.
Overall, Alfa Romeo USA sales suffered a 23% drop in 2018, when deliveries dropped from 23,800 units to 18,292 cars.
The 4C is likely to be discontinued worldwide, given that the Alfa Romeo roadmap for 2022 does not include it. This means that buyers in this segment will need to switch to an Alpine A110 or Porsche Boxster/ Cayman.
The above product roadmap includes the updated Stelvio, Giulia, and the forthcoming Tonale. It also features a crossover with pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The death of the MiTo means that the Giulietta has also been announced. The revival of 8C and GTV is not likely to happen.
