Alfa Romeo's Most Powerful Car Ever: The 641-HP Giulia Coupe

The new model, which is expected to pack LaFerrari’s hybrid tech, could be available by the end of this year and will be known as Sprint or GTV.

Rumours of a two-door Giulia circulated for a while on the World Wide Web. If we were to believe a report from Autocar, it would appear that a coupe-ified version might be in the works. Although not even one spy shot of the model is available at the time of writing, sources close Alfa Romeo claim that the model will be released late in the year and go on sale in 2019.

The Giulia Coupe will be believed to sport the “Sprint”, or “GTV”, badge. It is an upgraded version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan, from which it will inherit some body panels at its front half. However, it will have a different nose to distinguish it from its four-door sibling. A coupe-style roofline with a sloped roofline is being considered, as well as longer doors and a modified derriere. The back of the car will feature a regular trunk, similar to the BMW 4 Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A5 coupes. However, rumours suggest that a more practical liftback with five door could be in the works. This would allow the 4 Series Gran Coupe or the A5 Sportback to have a larger trunk.

The lesser coupes will use the gasoline and diesel engines of the Giulia, up to the Quadrifoglio’s 505-hp engine V6, but the flagship of the range could pack 641 horsepower. Rumours suggest that the familiar biturbo V6 of Alfa’s two Giulia models and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models will be combined with F1-derived technology in the form an energy recovery system (ERS) to create a hybrid powertrain. This latter could be an adaptation from the LaFerrari’s hybrid powertrain with F1-derived tech in the form of an energy recovery system (ERS). It is believed to prioritize performance over fuel economy and lower CO 2 emissions.

According to the report, Alfa Romeo is also looking at a hybrid powertrain. It would be based on the 276-hp 2.0 liter gasoline engine in the Euro-spec Giulia Veloce, but with an electric boost, which gives a combined output of around 345 horsepower.

Although it’s still too early to discuss pricing, the 641-hp version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan is available in the United States starting at $73,700.
