Ford may kill all the combustion engines in the pony car, according to wild rumors.
The end of the old-fashioned combustion engine is certain, regardless of whether we like it. Although it is unlikely to happen anytime soon, there are already many signs that the ICE will be gradually retiring. According to a new report, even the most famous sports car in the world will go completely electric by the end of this decade. Autoline Daily claims that the Mustang two-door will be purely electric, following in the footsteps of the Mach-E.
The report states that the Blue Oval will begin production of the Mustang without EcoBoost or V8 in December 2028. This would make it a 2029MY model. Autoline Daily suggests that the EV will be the next-generation ‘Stang. This would mean that the S550, the sixth-generation model, will continue to exist for seven more years, despite it being launched in 2013.
The next Mustang is expected to abandon combustion engines in favor of electric power. Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly, Michigan is where the current Mustang is being built. Production will take place there. It is a little odd that the Mustang would have a 15-year lifespan. Therefore, the S650 being built before the electric Mustang is not being considered as a fully-fledged next-generation vehicle.
The next Mustang with combustion engines may not look all that different from the current model when it is unveiled in 2022 or 2023. Automotive News reported that the S650 would go into production in the fourth quarter 2022, and will have an eight year life cycle. There have been rumors of an all-wheel drive system, but nothing has been confirmed.
There are contradictory reports now about the future status of this popular sports car. A lot could happen between now and 2028. Even though it is unlikely that the Mustang will continue to be produced until then, it may not switch to a new generation. Ford has electrified its pony car with more than one vehicle, including the Mach-E SUV. In recent years, the Cobra Jet 1400, and the Lithium EV concepts.
These showcars show that the Mustang’s creators are open to the idea of dismantling its gasoline engine. However, we bet it won’t be long before customers have no choice but to go electric.
