There are a few restrictions to the service.
Alphavan announced that it is ready to equip its camper vans with StarLink technology, just a few days after SpaceX’s announcement of a new StarLink RV service. The optional StarLink adapter package from the German company is available to connect to satellite internet hardware and services. StarLink will be available to Alphavan campers.
StarLink’s mobile internet service is an ideal solution for many. However, there are a few limitations that can make it difficult to access the internet at all times. First, the service will not be available while an RV, camper van or travel trailer is moving. This is a big problem, but it will not void the limited warranty. However, StarLinkIt says that it is working to make this happen.
StarLink for RVs will be prioritized over other internet traffic. This could lead to “degraded service” and slower speeds during peak hours and in congestion areas. The service is not available at all times and speeds are not guaranteed.
Alphavan will provide the hookup but not the hardware. You will need to order the hardware from StarLink. The monthly fee is $135 and the $599 hardware costs. StarLink RVs allows customers the ability to pause or unpause service at will. However, customers must pay for a whole month of service regardless how long they use it.
Alphavan will provide the required mounting hardware and pre-wiring for StarLink in its package. Alphavan’s StarLink package will include all the necessary mounting hardware for StarLink, as well as the pre-wiring. This includes a smart TV, smart home control, and optional sound system. The price of the StarLink package has not been disclosed by Alphavan.
Built from a Mercedes Sprinter the Alphavan can be transformed into a multi-room living area with unique design features and high-quality materials. The Alphavan features a semi-private loft bedroom and a wet bathroom. There is also an accessible garage that can be used as a bedroom for children. SpaceX’s StarLink may not be the best RV internet service, but it is a solid beginning to make that future possible.
