New headlights, and taillights will be available with the Life Cycle Impulse 200-mph wagon.
Spy shots show BMW is planning to update the 5 Series family mid-cycle. It makes perfect sense Alpina would do the same thing for its B5 models. The mid-sized premium wagon was spotted here in Touring style. It was modified by talented engineers from Buchloe Germany to conceal the new features we recently spotted on the BMW-badged BMW 5er.
The mascara is not covering the new look of the headlights that you can see clearly. This will be the first time the BMW 5 Series Touring has seen it. Similar can be said for the taillights, which appear to have different graphics than what can be seen through the camouflage. The distinctive quad exhaust system is a sign that this isn’t a regular 520d Touring. While the timeless, elegant multi-spoke wheels are typical Alpina traits.
The bumper was redesigned to allow for larger intakes. This will provide more cooling to the twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8. It also gives the wagon an even meaner appearance. You won’t be disappointed to learn that the kidneys of the B5 will be normal in size if you don’t like the large grilles on older BMWs.
The bumper at the back looks very similar to the one on the B5 Touring. However, things could change between now, and launch. You might be led to believe that there will be many tweaks to the wagon’s rear end, but we won’t.
Positioned above the M550i, the Alpina B5 is the closest thing we’ll ever get to a new M5 Touring and is also offered in a torque-rich D5 S specification as an alternative to the soon-to-be-discontinued M550d. The gasoline-powered model has 600 horsepower and 800 Newton-meters (590 pound feet) of torque. It can reach 200 mph (322 km/h) faster than the Audi RS6 Avant.
The B5 facelift will be released in the wake of the launch of the 186-mph B3 touring, which Alpina introduced last fall to replace the M3 Touring.
