Although this is an older model Alpina, it still offers impressive performance.
Alpina’s tuning BMWs focuses on improving the performance of the vehicles while making them more road-worthy. This video shows an Alpina D5 driving on the autobahn as an example of this upgrade philosophy.
This is the Alpina D5 Bi-Turbo model from the BMW 5 Series. This model was offered by Alpina from 2011 through 2016. The model was available in both sedans and wagon body types.
The engine is a 3.0-liter diesel-fueled twin-turbo, inline-six that produces 345 horsepower (257kW) and 516 pound feet (700 Newton-meters). This allows the sedan to reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.1 seconds. It also allows it to reach a top speed at 173 mph (278 km/h).
This video shows the D5 Bi-Turbo with additional tuning. It produces 420 horsepower (313 kW) as well as 664 lb-ft (6900 Nm). This car can reach 62 mph in 4.8 seconds thanks to the extra power.
The D5 is a beast of torque with its incredible acceleration. The engine’s rev range is where you want it to be, but if you are not in that range, the throttle can be lowered for a rapid increase of velocity.
We don’t have a chance to look at the AutoTopNL video app in order to see how fast the Alpina accelerates.
The D5 looks very comfortable to drive at high speeds. Although the engine’s sound is not overpowering, it makes a loud noise when you accelerate. Even at high speeds, the cabin is quiet. This would be a problem for police officers in many parts of the world.
This Alpina reached 284 kph (177 MPH) according to the digital speedometer. Although the car was still moving slowly, it was still reaching high speeds.
Alpina will be joining BMW, subject to antitrust approval. Alpina will continue to produce modified BMW models until 2025 as part of the plan. The firm’s future remains a mystery after that. However, the tuner stopped making vehicles at its Buchloe facility in Germany.
