The 1:8 scale model is more expensive than the cheapest cars on the market.
The British Grand Prix was won by four Mercedes-Benz W196 Monoposto racecars in July 1955. They took the first, second and third places. This was a historic win by the German automaker after it had just returned to motorsport and Formula One the previous year. It was also Sir Stirling Moss’ first GP win. He won the race aboard the Mercedes W196.
Amalgam collection has added a 1/8 scale model of the W196 Monoposto racecar to its weathered series to commemorate the win.
The W196 Monoposto, like other Amalgam scale models is handcrafted and completed in the Bristol workshop by the company with the assistance and cooperation of Mercedes-Benz. It was especially helpful when it came to the original finishes and materials.
After the scale model was completed, it was passed through Mercedes’ engineering team and design teams to ensure a complete representation of the race car.
Only five Amalgam MercedesW196 Monopostos will be produced. Each one is priced at $17.165, which is even more than the cheapest cars that you can purchase in the US as of this writing.
We all know that Sir Stirling Moss, although he did not win the Formula 1 World Championship in his time, was an influential driver of race cars throughout the history of motorsports. Inducted into the Internation Motorsports Hall of Fame, he was knighted in 2000 by Prince Charles.
The news of Moss’s death in April 2020 was widely reported. There were many tributes from around the globe to the motoring icon.
