It is rare and beautiful, as it is the only car with front fenders enclosed.
This is something you won’t see every single day, even if your budget allows for $4 million to buy impulse cars. This is what the 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS will bring to auction in Italy at RM Sotheby’s Villa Arba sale. The renowned French-built “teardrop” coupe is one of two with fully enclosed front fenders. This isn’t a neat Craigslist find. The other one belonged Princess Stella of Karputhala.
According to the history on RM Sothby’s website this particular car lived a relatively quiet life after leaving the Talbot factory in December 1937. After being presumed to have been hidden during World War II it was registered in Switzerland in 1946. It received a new convertible body. In 1966, it was sold again to another person. It was then transferred to the current owner in 1987. He decided to restore the classic car to its original hardtop configuration in 2000. The owner lost the original body, so he hired a French builder to create a replica.
This T150-C SS’s rest is original factory stock. This means that the chassis was lightweight and short wheelbase, with an inline six-cylinder engine. It was extremely robust for its time. The car’s performance is what makes petrolheads swoon. It’s not just an iconic design, but many consider it to be the pinnacle in timeless automotive beauty. Buyers back this up with deep pockets and open checks when one goes on sale.
We are not people who get excited about cars being stored in collections. These vehicles were meant to be enjoyed and driven. We’ll make exceptions for this beautiful piece of automotive history if it means future generations can enjoy this wonderful machine.
