America Duels Nissan Titan In V8 Truck Drag Race

Can the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 win against Japan?

A few weeks ago, The Fast Lane Truck hosted a very epic half-ton pickup truck drag racing. Although it isn’t something we often see, the pickup trucks are so popular that most people take an interest in them. Although the Ford F-150 with its EcoBoost V6 won the previous showdown, the V8 crowd wasn’t happy and posted TFLT YouTube comments requesting a rematch.

These comments are fair because the action was held near Denver, Colorado. The thin air at one mile above sea level definitely favored the boosted truck. A new race was held in the same location under similar conditions. It featured four full-size half-ton V8 pickups competing in a battle for the beds. It’s not as easy as it seems. We’ll get to that in a moment.

These V8 trucks are the same as the ones in the previous video. They include the Nissan Titan XD and Ford F-150. Toyota did not have a truck for testing. The venue, IMI Motorsports Complex, is the same. There is no timing equipment and prep like at a drag track. The races are very similar to real-world situations.

This is the problem with comparing pickup trucks for acceleration. Automakers often offer hundreds of configurations and options for pickup trucks. And that’s not talking about floormats. You can have a Ram 1500 with either a single-cab, 2WD pickup, or a 4-wheel, four-door model. However, they are still Ram 1500. You can quickly see the difference in acceleration between models from the same company when you add in the weight of different options, suspension setups and gear ratios for towing. This is similar to comparing apples with spaceships.

So, take a look at the video, but be aware that your results might differ. We mean that they most likely will. This is especially true because the Ford F-150 has the advantage of being the only 2-wheel-drive truck in the contest. Guess which one will win?
