The complete story about the AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine is available here. You will find all the details here.
Mercedes AMG has removed the cover from a new eight-cylinder engine that they will use in their new cars starting this summer. The new engine will debut in the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and will be mated with the new SpeedShift MCT seven-speed transmission.
Two power settings will be offered for the 5.5-liter biturbo direct injection V8 petrol engine. The company will offer a 544 PS version (400 kW/ 537 HP) that can produce 800 Nm (590 Lb-ft) at 2000-4500 RPM. The upgraded version can produce 571 PS (420kW / 563 HP) and up to 600 Nm (664 Lb-ft), at 2500-3750 RPM.
The S63 engine consumes 10.5 liters of petrol for every 100 km, which is approximately 22.4 mpg-US. The engine features start/stop, part of the “Controlled Efficiency” driving mode. This helped reduce fuel consumption by 25% compared to the S63 AMG, according to the company.
The new engine is 0.1 seconds faster than the old model, and gets the S63 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The electronically limited S63 AMG will be at 250 km/h (155 MPH) just like the previous version. The press release below contains more information about the 5.5-liter V8 AMG motor.
