Attention purists:
A study done in Q1 2020 revealed that only 13%, or 41 percent of the 327 new cars, have a manual transmission option. This number dropped a little last week when Honda announced that it would drop the MT option on the Fit, Civic Coupe, and Accord.
However, this time it is Jeep Isn’t it joining the Save the manuals Conglomerate by dropping stick shift on the 2021 Compass . This was discovered by CarsDirect The dealer order guides for the next model year were also available to the customer by the company.
The publication states that the Jeep Compass will be entering the 2021 model-year with either a 6-speed or 9-speed automatic transmission as an option. This effectively drops the MT across its range. The 2020 Compass will still come with a 6-speed manual transmission on the Sport and 4×4 Latitude entry-level trims.
This is because nobody will be buying a manual transmission SUV. At least not for the Compass. Amy Grundman, spokesperson for Jeep, spoke to CarsDirect. She stated that there wasn’t much demand for a manual transmission.
The loss of a manual option will increase the small crossover’s price. It will now start at $25,390 including destination for the automatic Compass Sport trim. CarsDirect’s report revealed this price.
Jeep’s Compass isn’t the only Jeep that can drop the stick. At-Terrain was first offered to the Cherokee and Renegade. The Compass’s closest rivals are the Mazda CX-30 and Nissan Rogue Sport. They also lack a stick option.
The Subaru Crosstrek, which is a small crossover, offers a stick-shift for American car buyers.
