The inspiration for the coachbuilding project comes from classic Ferrari models like the 365 GT4 2+2, 400 and the 412.
Following yesterday’s unveiling of the Pantera refresh, Ares Design announced plans to retrofit another supercar. The Lamborghini Huracan is the inspiration for the De Tomaso’s iconic model, but the Project Pony will be built on the Ferrari GTC4Lusso underpinnings and feature new bodywork that is similar to Maranello’s classic models.
Ares Design’s 2018 second project will be inspired by a trio boxy grand toursers. Ferrari Between 1972 and 1989. These are the 365 GT4 2+2, 400 and subsequent 412 models, which will all be brought to life in Project Pony. An official sketch shows off the all-carbon-fiber coach-built body.
The Project Panther, which will go into production in August, will cost you EUR715,000, or approximately $890,000. However, the retro-flavored GTC4Lusso will be slightly less at EUR700,000. That’s about EUR870,300. It will be available for purchase towards the end.
The new Project Pony will use a naturally aspirated V12, 6.3-liter engine that produces 690 horsepower (507 Kilowatts) & 697 Newton-meters (514 pounds-feet), just like the donor car. Ferrari also offers a smaller version of the V12 6.3-liter engine.

This week, the Project Panther was displayed at Modena’s new headquarters. Ares Design also modified the previous-generation Mercedes G-Class (pictured below) and coupe-ified the Bentley Mulsanne. You can see several other projects on the company’s website, including a Chevy Corvette, Land Rover Defender, and a Porsche 911 GT3 Targa. There is also a Tesla Model S that has been reimagined in soft-top convertible or wagon form.
