Too many SUVs? VW doesn’t allow such a thing.
Volkswagen currently has two joint ventures in China, VW-FAW & VW-SAIC. These companies compete on the Chinese market as distinct entities. It can be difficult to keep track of the new vehicles launched by these firms, especially in SUV segments. Wolfsburg-based automaker is not convinced there are too many crossovers. It is currently ready to launch its new Tavendor SUV in People’s Republic.
The new large people hauler was revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This year, spied earlier During pre-production testing in Sweden. The new model will be below the Talagon, currently in VW-FAW’s lineup. The largest Volkswagen vehicle . The Tavendor measures 4.93 meters in length and 2.01 meters in width. It is slightly shorter than the Talagon and has a few millimeters more wheelbase.
The engine is a turbocharged 4-cylinder turbo-four-cylinder gas engine of 2.0-liter capacity. It can be found under the long hood in two power levels – 196 or 220 horsepower. The engine is standardly mated to a seven speed dual-clutch automated gearbox and optional 4Motion all wheel-drive system. The vehicle will be available in a variety of trim levels when it hits China’s market in the third quarter. It is expected to retail for around 300,000 Yuan or $44,780 at current exchange rates. Side note: The VW-SAIC joint venture has two additional large SUVs for sale in China. The Teramont is located between the Talagon, Tavendor, and there’s also an SUV-style version called the TeramontX. Volkswagen currently has almost 10 SUVs in China, all of which are jointly produced with two partners local to the brand and marketed as rival models.
Volkswagen has just introduced the Lamando sedan to China, which is based on the MQB Evo platform. A 1.4-liter TSI motor with 150 horsepower is paired with a seven speed, dual-clutch auto transmission. The range will soon include a 2.0 TSI engine that is likely to be shared with the new Tavendor.
