Aston Martin AMRB 001 hybrid hits Toronto auto show circuit

Aston Martin and Formula One Red Bull race team collaborated to create the super sleek and stylish hypercar. Both parties call it “a road car that will be the decade’s best.”

It’s hard to deny the thrill hypercars bring the floor. They’re a big hit in Europe with Bugatti Chrons and Pagani Huaryas. Aston Martin led the show’s North American premiere and global debut of the AMRB 001.

Rimac is providing a lightweight hybrid battery system for the show, although no official specifications have been released. A hybrid hypercar will also be paired with a seven-speed paddle shift transmission, designed and manufactured Ricardo. Aston Martin calls this “the perfect companion to Cosworth’s V12.”

The AM-RB 001 has a lightweight structure throughout. It starts with a carbon fibre frame. Adrian Newey is the Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing. He wanted the hypercar to have a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
It was no accident that Aston Martin chose Toronto to make its debut at the auto show. Multimatic, an Ontario-based supplier, was involved in the design and production of the tub.

This project was worked on by a number of high-profile people. It was discussed first at a British pub with bangers, mash, and Newey headed the clean-sheet approach. Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, also assisted. Andrew Palmer, Aston Martin CEO, was present at the Toronto show to unveil this innovative creation.

Palmer stated that there isn’t anything else that can compare to this vehicle. “Mercedes-AMG announced that they were doing a hybrid version of this vehicle, but we are using a larger 6.5-liter Cosworth V12 naturally-aspirated, mid-mounted engine. That’s how an engine should be.”

The AM-RB 001 has been the same team since the beginning. This is due to the F1-driven aerodynamics setup, which doesn’t just focus on straight line speed but also ensures the AM-RB 001’s on-road brilliance. Although this is a familiar story, Palmer’s grimace when he spoke about the unrivalled levels of downforce in its underfloor has caught our attention. The hypercar will have driver assistance functions such as traction and stability control, so cornering grip should not be an issue.

Palmer stated that it was difficult to combine Formula 1 and production cars conceptually. “Fundamental conflicts are caused by natural tensions within a team, but it all works out to one phenomenal hypercar which is expected to hit the streets by 2019.

All 150 versions of the road cars have been sold at a price that should be around $3 million. Racing drivers, celebrities, as well as fans from around the world are among the lucky owners. Additional 25 track-only versions featuring larger wings are also possible, but this is still in development and is not yet available for purchase.
