Aston Martin DBSSuperleggera Is A V12 Flagship Monster

The new range-topper by the company should combine the best of the GT and supercar worlds.

Aston Martin finally unveiled its Super GT flagship, DBS Superleggera, after tons of spy shots taken mostly at Nurburgring. The Vanquish S was replaced by the DBS, which is “dedicated towards delivering an unforgettable driving experience as well as class-leading in gear acceleration.”

The vehicle marks the return to both the DBS (or Superleggera) illustrious names. It is based upon an evolution of the lightweight aluminum construction of the DB11. This uses forged double wishbones in the front and a sophisticated multilink layout in the back. It also includes adaptive damping, as well as the ability to choose from three driving modes: Sport, Sport, or Sport Plus.

The engine is a 5.2-liter V12biturbo engine. It produces a staggering 715 horsepower (533 Kilowatts) as well as 664 pound-feet (6900 Newton-meters of torque) at speeds between 1,800 and 5,500 rpm. For optimal weight distribution and lower center-of-gravity, the motor is placed as low as possible in the chassis.

ZF has developed an eight-speed automatic gearbox that channels power to the rear wheels. The mechanical limited-slip differential with torque vectoring allows for precise torque delivery. It also provides “predictable and exploitable handling” and lower final drive to allow for explosive in-gear acceleration.

This statement is only proven by the 3.4 second sprint from a standstill at 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds. After 6.4 seconds, the 100 mph mark (160 km/h) is reached. The top speed electronically controlled at 211 mph (354 kph), however, is just a fraction over 66 seconds.

There are many cool options and gadgets available to the standard equipment, such as leather upholstery, keyless entry, engine start, tire pressure monitoring, tire pressure monitoring system and a 360-degree camera that includes park assist. There’s also an infotainment and Bluetooth audio, phone streaming, iPod, iPhone, and USB playback.

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO, says that the DBS Superleggera is not only a return to a great Aston Martin brand, but also signals our return at the pinnacle in the Super GT sector. Its lightweight carbon composite and aluminum body are sculpted to a form with incredible presence and charisma.

The new DBS Superleggera will be available in the United States starting at $304,995.
