Aston Martin is likely to chase the Nordschleife SUV record during the spring.
Aston Martin claims the new DBX707 luxury SUV is the most powerful in the world. The SUV boasts 697 horsepower thanks to its twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8. It’s also extremely fast in straight-line speeds. The automaker also points out suspension upgrades and brake upgrades, which contribute to overall performance improvements.
The DBX707 will set a record for a production SUV lap time at Nurburgring. According to Tobias Moers, CEO of Aston Martin, it likely will. Moers spoke out in advance of the SUV’s unveiling to Motor1.com, stating that he was determined to take the title from Porsche.
“What do you think 7:38.9 is? Do we chase that on the Nordschleife or not? He said, “Probably we’re going to do that, yes.” It’s quite good for grip. We aren’t far from that record with standard tires right now.
7:38.9 is 7 minutes 38.9 seconds. This time was set by a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT around the 12.9-mile loop. Moers also referred to the Cayenne, which was considered a benchmark in the segment during Aston Martin’s development of the DBX707.
Moers said, “For sure, we had a glance at the Lamborghini Urus.” “I drove the Urus. Porsche is the benchmark in driving dynamics.
The DBX707 has an upgraded V8, and a variety of suspension tweaks. The DBX707 features a new nine-speed, wet-clutch transmission that reduces shift times. The electronic rear differential has an improved final drive ratio to increase acceleration and huge carbon-ceramic brakes to reel in the power. Aston Martin claims the DBX707 can reach 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, and a maximum speed of 193 mph.
This is a dead heat for Cayenne Turbo GT at 60 mph and just a few clicks faster for the big end. It will be interesting to see how aggressive track-focused rubber performs if the DBX707 can run a lap in 7:38 on standard Pirelli tires. Moers suggested that a record attempt might be made this spring. This would be in line with the target on-sale date of the SUV’s muscular muscle, which is currently scheduled for the second quarter 2022.
If it is successful, it could be a very timely piece of PR to attract potential buyers who want a five-seater Aston Martin with $232,000 in the bank.
