This very green chronograph is being built by the watchmaker. They retail for $27 800 in the USA.
The Girard Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chonograph Aston Martin A1 Edition is the latest collaboration between the Swiss watchmaker, and the British automobile manufacturer. The limited edition of 306 units is available. This refers to the distance in kilometers from the 2022 British Grand Prix Silverstone. The chronograph is bold enough to feel at home on an F1 grid.
Mike Krack, principal of Aston Martin F1 Team, stated that the common thread between him and G-P’s designers was “We always seek to find lighter solutions.” This Laureato includes some amazing innovations.
Two firsts for Girard Perregaux are the new composite case material and the bold strap.
This 44 millimeter case features the company’s first use of a process that mixes titanium powder with pieces of carbon fibre. Krack assures that the materials were taken from two Formula One cars in the 2021 season. To give the material a green hue, it is mixed with tinted resin.
This case has a look that is very similar to forged carbon fibre. It will be easy to spot subtle green details in the material, which match the dial’s “Racing Green”, and the livery for the Aston Martin F1 car.
Girard-Perregaux’s other innovation is the creation of the strap. The strap is made from synthetic rubber and some of F1’s carbon elements. The company names the resulting material GP Rubber Alloy and has naturally made it in the same Aston Martin Racing Green. The outside features a fabric-effect façade and the buckle is made of titanium, which can be adjusted micro-for the perfect fit.
Girard-Perregaux designs the dial elements of the Laureato Aston Martin F1 Edition, taking inspiration from the race car. The dial is made up of eight layers of Racing Green, with a cross-hatched design. The hands’ openings are meant to remind you of the cooling inlets used by vehicles. AMR’s lime green is used to make the hands on the second and 9 o’clock registers.
The sapphire crystal on the back of the Laureato Absolute chronograph is the first to feature this technology. This may seem like an afterthought to non-watch lovers, but G-P says that the movement can have up to five types of finishing.
Laureato Aston Martin F1 Edition uses Girard Perregaux’s GP03300-1058 motor with 63 jewels. It operates at 28,800 vibrations an hour and has a 46-hour reserve.
You’ll need $27,800 to add this green chronograph to you collection or to wear it while driving your DBX707. It’s a small price to pay considering you’ll be wearing the same watch as Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel (at least for one season).
Krack assured us that both drivers would wear the new G-P on grid but said, “I don’t know if they will be able o wear it in a race.” Ask Lewis Hamilton.
This is the third timepiece that Aston Martin and Girard Perregaux have created together. The Tourbillon and Three Flying Bridges Aston Martin Edition was the first. The Laureato Chonograph Aston Martin edition was next.
