At the company’s flagship showroom, Lagonda Concept and Rapide E were on display.
Aston Martin showcased its electrified future in London with two future models.
Aston Martin’s first all electric production car, the Rapide; and the Lagonda Vision concept that showcases the brand’s rebirth and future all-electric products were on display at its Mayfair showroom.
Rapide E is Aston Martin’s first all electric production vehicle. Only 155 units will be made.
Rapide E’s twin motor drive system, which sends 602 horsepower to its rear wheel, accelerates it to 60 mph (66.6 kph), in just four seconds, and to a maximum speed of 155mph (250 km/h). The Rapide E will be manufactured at Aston Martin’s St. Athan plant, in Wales. This facility also handles the assembly of Aston Martin’s first SUV called the DBX.
Aston Martin’s Second Century Plan is demonstrated by Rapide E. John Caress, Vehicle Director for Rapide E, Aston Martin Lagonda, stated that having an electric powertrain is not just a dream for our company. It’s a reality. “We are currently producing fully-electric vehicles, which will be part of our future strategy and will culminate in the entry into the market for the first Lagonda car.
We have done everything possible to meet the high performance standards of our customers. Rapide E can travel just over 200 miles using the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. It also has a 0 to 80 per cent charge that can be accomplished in less than 35 minutes with an 800V DC 100kW charging stations.
This week, the Rapide E will make its U.K. debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The LagondaVision Concept previews the future of the Lagonda brand. Aston Martin revived the nameplate as an exclusive, all-electric luxury brand a few years back. This concept is an SUV and very similar to the brand’s new production model.
“When we relaunched Lagonda we set ourselves the ambitious goal to become the first luxury electric brand in the world. Marek Reichman is the Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda. “We see the Lagonda brand as sitting in a unique niche market,” he said. It is designed for high-end luxury customers who want to be independent and explore the world, but still keep an eye on the environmental impact.
“Lagonda will accomplish this, but it will also bring joy and delight to those who have the opportunity to experience its unique inner environment.”
