They will each share a flat plane crank engine.
The DBX is the main driver behind Aston Martin’s sales boom but performance cars will always be the heart of the Gaydon-based marque. The SUV even has a faster version, with 700 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.1 seconds. The company hosted a roundtable discussion with journalists about the new DBX707 to discuss the Bentayga Speed competitor as well as future products.
Tobias Moers (Aston Martin CEO, former AMG head honcho) told us that the Valhalla is still being developed. The AM-RB 003 concept was first shown in March 2019, before the final version was revealed in July. The German executive claims that the production model will be available in 2024. It will share the same drivetrain as the Vanquish, the entry-level supercar.
The Vanquish was also introduced in March 2019, as a concept car. It featured a revolutionary redesign compared to previous models, adopting a mid engined layout. The hybrid powertrain also featured a turbocharged V6. Moers stated to Motor1.com that the production model will go on sale in 2025, roughly one year after Valhalla. They will both share a flat plane crank engine that will be made in-house.
We will remind you that Valhalla’s concept’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine V6 was replaced by a larger, twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. Aston Martin did not release any images or details about the production model. It didn’t mention that the combustion engine was related to Mercedes-AMG’s unit in the Black Series. Moers has now stated that the gasoline mill will be made within AM. This suggests that the British brand is performing most, if not all of the work.
The Black Series’ redline is met by the V8 at 7,200 rpm. The Valhalla’s V8 will produce 937 horsepower (699kilowatts) as well as 738 pound-feet (1,200 Newton-meters) of torque. The sub- Valkyriemachine is said to reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h), before reaching 217 mph (355 km/h).
The Vanquish will be at the bottom end of supercar chains, so it won’t be able match these performance and output numbers. They are still far away, so much could change between now 2024/2025. Aston Martin seems determined to launch two supercars in addition to the Valkyrie hypercar.
