It will be able to swap the V6 engine in its in-house unit for a twin-turbo V8 from Affalterbach.
You might recall that Aston Martin was selling the Vanquish name three years ago. The concept was presented by Gaydon for a mid-engined machine that would be positioned below the Valhalla or Valkyrie at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Tobias Moers, the company’s CEO, told us earlier this year that the supercar was still being built. It won’t be on the roads until 2025, however.
The people at Autocar We have more information about the Aston Martin baby supercar. The Vanquish will be using AMG power instead of the original in-house V6. It will switch to Affalterbach’s obsolete twin-turbo V8 that is found in larger, high-performance German models.
It will be part of a plug in hybrid engine. The Valhalla has the V8 from AMG GT Black Series. However, the Vanquish will have the smaller configuration of the AMG GT 63 E Performance. According to the Aston Martin, the ICE alone should produce 630 hp. However, this is corroborated by the electric motor. The total output should be 831 hp.
The new Vanquish will pursue the McLaren Artura and Ferrari 296 GTB by going down the PHEV route. Aston Martin will have to change from its 3.0-liter V6 to a V8 from a third-party as it must overhaul the supercar in order to accommodate a larger combustion engine. Despite its increased size, the ICE should still weigh less that 1,500 kg (3,306 lbs) thanks to the carbon-fiber tub.
A track-only version of the supercar will be created. This hardcore version is intended to compete in a global one-make racing series. It is possible that the Vanquish will not be exactly the same when it arrives. According to Lawrence Stroll, the company chairman, the supercar will probably be given a new name. British journalists say the new model will be “radically different” from the Vanquish Vision concept.
The official unveiling is scheduled for the second half of next year. Customer deliveries are planned for 2025.
