Attack of the ’90s: First-Gen Dodge Viper Crashes While Racing Integra

Although nobody appears to be hurt, the Viper could still be destroyed.

First, let’s start with the good news. According to our records, this crash resulted in no injuries. This means that there were no injuries to anyone. The first generation Dodge Viper R/T10 has seen better days. We suspect that the driver is struggling with both an empty ego and a broken heart.

We saw photos of this 1990s supercar in our Radwood Facebook group. A link in the post led us to Kyle Andrew Robertson’s video, which captured the final moments this red Viper faced off against an Acura Integra. It didn’t go well for the Viper, as you can see.

Although we don’t know all the details, we do know that it took place in Dayton, Ohio. According to reports, there was a car meeting in the area last weekend. People were filming the exits of the participants. It is not clear if this was a Radwood-style event but the OG Viper ended right next to a modified Integra at a red light. For a brief moment, a V10 with low revving and a VTEC four-pot Honda VTEC four-pot were in the air.

Sadly, that’s the high point of this 25-years-in-the-making showdown. With the engine bouncing around the rev limiter, the Integra speeds away from the intersection. It appears that the Viper driver didn’t take the bait at first, which is to his credit. After crossing the intersection, the Viper passes the Acura, then violently turn to the right, smashing into a pole, and finally coming to rest facing the street. The video shows the Viper in its wrecked state, with significant damage to its front fascia and hood.

What happened? The weather was cold, according to some commenters. This is not a good way to find grip in a rear-wheel drive car with tons of torque and no stability control. This stretch of road also curves slightly to the right. If we had to guess, the Viper driver would have rolled onto the throttle after shifting into the second gear. This is a recipe for viral car videos.

We are glad to report that there were no injuries in the crash. We know that we sound like the old man who complains every time we write this. But, just be kind to yourself and take it easy on your commute. We don’t need any more wrecks, even classics like this.
