2011: The S1 will be a firecracker! First, Audi will reveal a cabriolet version the upcoming A1.
Audi’s MINI-killer, the MINI-killer, is hard at work stretching muscles for its debut in September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. We have seen many renderings and sketches of the Audi A1 as well as sketches. Auto Express has leaked images of the cabriolet version of the Audi A1 before it is revealed.
Audi A1’s soft top has a new roof mechanism that is more sophisticated than previous MINI’s. It folds back into a hidden position at the rear and does not allow for any intrusions. The roof can also be folded into an enclosed area very quickly, making it ideal for groceries and other small items. Golf bags are still being tested.
Additionally, the A1 will have funkier features that will appeal to its target audience. This includes existing technologies such as iPod interfaces, interior lighting options, and a reduced version of MMI. Personalization options will be more extensive than in the Fiat 500. We may see more funk. We will also see more engines…
The front wheels are supplied with a 1.4 TSI that produces 140 bhp or 170 bhp. As a base engine, a 1.2-litre engine of 102 bhp and 170 bhp will be available. A 1.8-litre option with 150 bhp will follow just below the S1 model. However, diesel will also play a part in the form 2.0 TDI at 140 and 170 BHP. S1 should use the same 2.0-litre TFSI engine as S3, though a 261 bhp/195kW estimate for S3 would be overly optimistic. We are more likely to see S1 with 200 bhp or 215 bhp when it launches in 2011. Audi’s last A1 was in 2009, when the market wasn’t ready. The target was different than this one.
