The A1 supermini crossover and the Q2 small crossover are coming soon.
Audi will say goodbye to the Q2 baby crossover, which will be discontinued in its first generation. The same fate will befall the A1 supermini, as the Four Rings will prioritize larger and more expensive cars. What does this mean for the A3 supermini? CEO Markus Duesmann stated that the compact vehicle will continue to be a part of Ingolstadt’s lineup. It will serve as an entry-level model after the Q2 and A1 are discontinued.
“When it comes down to the entry-level, the A3 (or its successor), that will likely be the entry-level. “So yes, I can promise that the A3 segment will have a variety of vehicles.
His last statement implies that there will be more than one model. It is unclear if he meant the Sportback, Sedan, and/or one combination of both. This segment will see a crossover, as the Cupra Terramar recently unveiled in Hungary will be manufactured at the Gyor plant.
Audi’s head honcho did not give any details about the A3’s future direction, but logic suggests that it will be available exclusively as an electric vehicle. German luxury brand Audi has already revealed that its last new ICE powered car will be launched in 2025. The current fourth-generation A3 was launched in May 2020. It will continue to be available until at least 2027. All new Audis will be purely electric at that point.
Archival Mercedes will reduce the number of compact offerings by seven to four, while a recent report suggests that some of BMW’s smaller ICE-powered vehicles may be in danger. As these vehicles are more popular, the profit margins for larger vehicles is much higher.
Back to the A3, spy shots revealed that a high-riding derivative of the A3 is in the works. It presumably carries the Allstreet suffix to echo , which was recently renamed the jacked up A1. The mid-cycle facelift should be completed by 2024, and it will include the spicy S3 or RS3. It is obvious that the legendary inline-five engine has reached its final days, so it might be a good idea to act quickly.
