Although it only has a 4-cylinder engine, the electric motor gives it a nice boost.
Audi has electrified its entire lineup with a preview of its plug in hybrid portfolio at March’s Geneva Motor Show. The A8 Sedan flagship and A7 Sportback PHEV models have been shown, as well as the Q7 SUV and Q5 SUVs. Now it is the turn of the A6 Sedan to get an additional fuel cap that hides the charging port.
The Audi A6 55TFSI e quiattro is the heart of this car. The Audi A6 55 TFSI e quattro is a turbo four-pot engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters and a power output of 248 horsepower (185 megawatts). TFSI works in conjunction with an electric motor of 141 horsepower (105kW). This allows for a total output of 362 horses (500 Newton-meters) and a massive 369 pound-feet (362 hp) from low 1,250 rpm. The Q5 55 TFSI e quattro also has the same setup.
The A6 in the PHEV version of the engine takes only 5.6 seconds to go from 0 to 62mph (100 km/h), and then it reaches 155mph (250 km/h), or 84mph (135km/h) when driven in electric mode. WLTP procedures will allow the large executive sedan to cover 33 miles (53 km) if it is shut down. The 14.1-kWh battery packs stores the energy and can be recharged at any public station with a maximum output of 7.4kW.
Audi will offer the new A6 55TFSI e quiattro in black and S line styling options, as well as a variety of goodies, including matrix LED headlights and 19-inch wheels (with red brake disc calipers), sport suspension and Audi Virtual Cockpit.
You can order it in Germany, starting at EUR68.850 with options. It’s not the first time the A6 has received the plug-in hybrid treatment. In 2015, a Etron variant was launched in China. Although the hybrid A6 debuted in late 2010, it is much older than that.
