Within five-tenths seconds, the suspension will automatically adjust itself.
The Audi S8 was unveiled at the start of the month. One of its key features was its predictive suspension, which can limit body roll and increase comfort. It will be standard on the hotter variant, and the Ingolstadt people have now announced that it will be an option for the regular A8 European models equipped with the TFSI engines.
Audi uses the term “initially” for the suspension’s availability with gasoline units. We can therefore expect diesels to get the smart system later in the A8’s lifespan. What is the actual working principle? Audi will be able to explain this nifty technology better:
Audi claims the A8 behaves almost like a sports car thanks to its air suspension. The “Dynamic Mode” reduces body roll by 2 degrees in fast corners and more than 5 degrees at the front. Select “Comfort Plus” in the Audi Drive select to get a smooth ride that is worthy of a luxobarge.
Predictive suspension in the Audi A8 works together with a front-mounted camera that can detect uneven surfaces and adjust the suspension to maximize comfort. The active suspension can adjust the sedan’s body up to 85 millimeters (3.3 in) in five-tenths of seconds.
Predictive suspension has a benefit even while the car is stationary. It automatically raises the body up by 50mm (2 inches) when you use door handle to make it easier to enter. Fancy.
The optional predictive active suspension is available in Europe starting August. It will be priced at EUR5,450 (German pricing).
