Audi has released details about the 2011 Audi A8 L long wheelbase model. Although subtle changes may be made, the engine is still a W12 layout. It’s just slightly larger.
Audi has revealed details about the A8 L W12 Quattro, the longer wheelbase version the A8 top-end sedan. Its length and W12 FSI engine are the main differences to other models.
The overall length of the car is 5,267 mm (17.28 ft), and 130 mm (5.1 in), longer than other models. It has a longer wheelbase, and a higher height of 3,122mm (10.24 feet) and 2mm (0.08 inches), respectively.
Rear passengers have access to many luxuries including two separate power-adjustable rear seats that can be heated or ventilated. There is also a full-length centre console which can include a fridge and a folding table.
Other standard and optional interior luxuries include the MMI system and 3D satellite navigation with Google Earth.
Exterior details include a single-frame radiator grille, chromed horizontal bars and W12 badges. Standard equipment includes four 15-spoke 19 inch alloy wheels with 255/45 tires. Customers can order optional 20-inch and even 21-inch wheels.
The new W12 is based on the 6.0-liter engine from the A8. It has been completely revised and increased its displacement to 6.3-liters. It is 247 kg (545 lbs) in weight and produces 368 kW (493 BHP / 500 PS) with 625 Nm (646.98 lb-ft at 3,250rpm). An 8-speed Tiptronic drives all four wheels and helps the A8L get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. It can also reach a top speed exceeding 250 km/h. The average fuel consumption is low at 12.0 litres/100 km (19.6 US mpg).
Although the W12 FSI will not be available at launch, the car will come with all of the engines in the A8 range by the end.
