Speakers everywhere, including the headliner.

Audi and Bang & Olufsen are teaming up again to create a high quality sound system for audiophiles who love the four-ring brand. The Advanced Sound System was created specifically for the A8 flagship. It features 23 loudspeakers with extremely light neodymium magnetics that keep distortions low and provide crystal clear sound quality. According to the companies, it sounds best when you listen to classic music or other types of music that haven’t been altered by artificial effects.

Audi managed to squeeze so many speakers into its full-size sedan by placing two speakers in the Apillars and two more in the headliner above rear seats. This creates a surround sound effect. The Bang & Olfusen is capable of providing a high-end 3D aural experience with 1,920 watts.

Two tweeters appear from the instrument panel when you open the A8’s infotainment software. Bang & Olufsen has added Acoustic Lens Technology to these tweeters. This ensures that the sound is evenly distributed horizontally in a 180-degree fan. Audi developed the algorithm that delivers the 3D sound in concert with Fraunhofer Institute in Erlangen. Each loudspeaker has its own amplifier.

Rear-seat passengers can adjust the subwoofer volume without the need for any other loudspeakers. They can also select Movie Set to maximize the sound quality of a movie’s soundtrack thanks to a series of pre-sets.

Audi and Bang & Olufsen decided that it would be a great idea for passengers to greet them upon opening their doors. The A8’s sound system will play a hearty audio jingle every time they open the door. Owners will have the option to turn this off if they wish…

Already production of Ingolstadt’s range topper has begun at Neckarsulm, and deliveries are scheduled to start towards the end of fall, initially at home here in Germany.
