Tesla Model S P100D is being targeted.
Audi announced plans for a four-door performance electric vehicle in March. It teased its E-Tron GT for the first time . Although Audi did not give a launch date, a new report by Autocar sheds more light on the company’s plans.
Our British source says the EV will arrive in 2020 with a similar powertrain as the E-Tron SUV. Siegfried Pint (the company’s powertrain boss) explains that the EV will be more focused on power than maximum range. Audi is believed to be targeting Tesla Model S P100D, which has 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 4.3 seconds, as a direct competitor.
The production model will use the same platform as the Porsche Taycan. It is not surprising that the E-Tron GT will get some Porsche genes but also have a lot more Audi genes.
Autocar claims that the four-door grand touring vehicle will be the first to offer 350-kW fast charging. This means it can charge up to 80 percent in just 12 minutes. Customers should welcome this feature, which is rumored to be more focused on performance than range.
Audi will present a preview of the model during the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. We will soon see the production E-Tron Sportback in 2019. This will be followed in 2020 by the E-Tron GT. It will be manufactured at Audi’s Neckarsulm, Germany and will be the first 10 electric vehicle from the marque to debut in 2025.
