Although the name of the SUV might not be very appealing, its green credentials are undeniable.
Another Audi will soon get an electric motor following the launch of the ETro and China-only Q2 ETro . The new Q5TFSI E Quattro is different from the two others. The combustion engine is retained to create a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The combination of a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline motor that produces 248 horsepower (185 Kilowatts) & 273 poundfeet (337 Newton-meters), and an electric motor with a peak output rating of 141hp (105kW) & 258 lbft (350Nm) is called a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Audi claims that the hybrid plug-in setup allows the midsize luxury SUV with a combined output to be 362 horsepower (270 kW) or 369 lbft (500 Nm). The Q5’s electrified muscle allows it to sprint to 62 mph (102.5 kph) in just 5.3 seconds. It can also reach a top speed at 149 mph (239 km/h), which is not bad considering the vehicle’s small size and relatively small four-cylinder engine.
People looking for a PHEV will be more interested in fuel economy. The new Audi Q5 55TFSI E Quattro promises a range of performance and efficiency. It can also return up to 112 miles per gallon, or use as little as 2.1 liters/100 km on the combined cycle. This means that the vehicle emits only 46 g/km of CO2 when it is used as a hybrid. However, fully electric mode can take it more than 26 miles (40 km) according to the WLTP cycle. The SUV can be switched off at 84 mph (135 km/h)
A lithium-ion battery pack that has a 14.1-kWh storage capacity is stored under the trunk’s floor to ensure a zero emission range. The battery can be fully charged using a 400V/16 outlet. A household socket takes approximately six hours. It takes just two and a quarter hours.
The styling is almost identical to the standard PHEV model. The “Quattro” logo at the tailgate indicates that we are dealing with an AWD vehicle. This is a vehicle with sensors which analyze the road and adjust the system to maximize performance. The seven-speed Stronic gearbox, which transmits power to the rear wheels only under certain conditions (low loads, traction) and other situations, turns the SUV into front-wheel-drive to increase efficiency.
Audi has already started accepting European orders for the Q5 55 FFSI E Quattro. In Germany, they are asking EUR60.450. The launch of the market is planned for the third quarter.
