Spy photos have shown an R8 sporting all manner of aero-upgrades.
Audi is rumored to be launching something big in the final days of internal combustion performance. As the V10 Performance RS Final Edition is rumored, the R8 could get an RS badge. We might be able to see it before the end of 2012. It could have a 650-horsepower (485 kilowatt) punch.
This is an unconfirmed rumor. TheSupercarBlog recently posted information that claims it has inside knowledge about the . However, the source of the information is not known. Motor1.com reached out to Audi for comment. A spokesperson stated that there was no information on models of the R8 not yet available. Although it is not confirmation, it is not denial.
Although the R8 RS Final Edition is a rumor at this time, it has some merit. Our spy photographers took a R8 RS test in Sweden and it was…different. Although the car was not camouflaged and did not have any notable design changes it was full of aerodynamic tidbits and winglets. The tail featured a huge rear wing that bore the Audi branding. The front lip spoiler was slightly larger. Curiously, this latest rumor mentions aero upgrades as part the RS Final Edition. The prototype was seen to have wires running from its engine bay to the interior. This could be a way to gather information about the V10.
All of this makes it clear that the R8 will be a great car. It remains to be determined if it will be 650 horsepower, which would be an impressive upgrade from the 602 HP (449 kW), currently offered by the V10 Performance. It will also surpass the Lamborghini Huracan ST and the recently announced Huracan Tecnica. Both use the same V10 to produce 631 hp (471 kW). The Huracan and R8 are linked from the beginning. They share powertrains and platforms. Lamborghini would be happy to allow the R8 to have a power advantage in its last hurrah.
It could be, but who said the Huracan wouldn’t leave with a grand final edition?
