The RS trio will outperform the Porsche Panamera 4S, which will inherit the engine.
An Motor1 reader sent us an image. It included a slideshow of a Norwegian dealer presentation about three upcoming RS models: RS4 Avant and RS5 Coupe. It is not surprising that the first two models will share a biturbo, 2.9-liter TFSI V6 motor from the new Porsche Panamera 4S. This information was revealed by Stephan Reil, the engineering chief of Audi’s Quattro GmbH division. He didn’t mention that the two engines will have more power, and that they will be joined by an RS5 Sportback.
The Panamera 4S is rated at 440 horsepower (324 kilowatts), 406 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters) and 442 lb/ft (660 Nm). While the new RS models will be rated at 450 hp (335 kW), 442 lb/ft (660 Nm) respectively. According to the slideshow, that’s enough Porsche power for the Audis to sprint to 62 mph (100.6 kilowatts) in under four seconds. The new RS models will have 450 hp (335 kW) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm). Buyers who are willing to pay more for higher speeds can ask Audi for the option dynamic package, which will allow the RS models to reach 174 mph (228 kph).
The dealer also revealed details about when the cars will hit the assembly line. According to the slideshow, the RS4 avant will begin production in December 2017. The RS5 Cou was created in June 2017. Our reader, who was present at the presentation, said that the RS5 Coupe was production-ready and the RS4 Avant is still in its final stages of development. The RS5 Sportback is not visible in the photo, but it will be available after the others.
Based on our production dates, the RS5 Coupe might be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The RS4 Avant could debut in September in Frankfurt.
