Can the M240i go above and beyond its weight?
Although the BMW M2 has yet to debut, the M240i from the automaker is a serious contender. A Carwow YouTube video shows the coupe’s performance against the Audi RS5 Sportback, which is hotter and makes more power than the BMW but costs much more. Is it worth the extra performance? You can find out in the video below.
This contest is dominated by the BMW M240ixDrive. The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine produces 374 horsepower (278 Kilowatts), and 368 pound-feet (598 Newton-meters) of torque. The Audi RS5 Sportback features a smaller and more powerful engine. The 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces 450 horsepower (335 kW) as well as 442 lb.ft (600 Nm).
Both engines are equipped with eight-speed automatic transmissions which deliver power to the all-wheel-drive systems. The BMW is lighter than the Audi. The BMW weighs in at 3,725 lbs (1,690 kg) Audi.
In the first race, the two teams launch side-by-side from the starting line. However, as they gain speed, the Audi starts to pull away. The BMW is not far behind the Audi in the quarter-mile race. The Audi finishes the race in 12.1 seconds. However, the BMW comes in second with a quarter-mile time of 12.2 seconds.
They are the same in their next pair of rolling races. Although the Audi is more powerful, it can keep the BMW in its rearview. However, the second race with both cars in the sportiest settings was closer to the first.
Although the BMW M240i xDrive may not have been able to defeat the Audi RS5 during a drag race it is impressively close. BMW will debut a new M2 variant, which is hotter than the current model. It will be powered by a twin-turbo, inline-six engine with around 450 hp. This should make it comparable to the RS5 or even better in a drag race. The M2 will bring a new matchup.
