In a station wagon, it takes 2.79 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h).
The Bugatti Veyron was the first hypercar to debut in 2005. It featured a 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine that produced 1,001 horsepower and 1,250 Newton meters (922 pound-feet). Now, 15 years later you can get the same amount of power and practicality in a five-seater station wagon.
This Audi RS6 Avant has been tuned to produce an identical 1,001 hp & 1,250 Nm. While it isn’t a fair comparison, it is still amazing to have that much power in a family car. AutoTopNL put those numbers to the test using a section of the Autobahn in Germany.
MTM’s RS6 Avant, however, is slower than the Veyron. Bugatti claims that the original Veyron takes 2.5 seconds to complete the same task at 0-60 mph (100 km/h). This comparison is possible because both cars are part of the same VW Group. The Molsheim beast takes 7.3 seconds to reach 124 mph (200 km/h).
Ingolstadt’s family hauler was able to reach the speed of 186 mph (300 km/h) in just 20.5 seconds. This feat is no doubt impressive, but the Veyron’s powerful engine really shines here, reaching that speed in 16.7 seconds. Although the Chiron’s predecessor can reach speeds of 253 mph/407 km/h, the Avant’s video shows it doing 207mph (333 km/h). However, it appears it could have gone a little faster.
MTM’s RS6 may not be as powerful as the Veyron’s, but it is still very usable. While the Avant is more expensive and weighs in at nearly 200 kg (441 lbs), it’s still a spacious family car. The Veyron is still the most desirable of both, but it’s remarkable that a mid-sized luxury wagon can offer comparable performance once a tuner has it.
