The Audi Q7 is equipped with 62 speakers. This SUV is sure to please everyone. More details here.
Audi created a prototype for a new Audi Q7 audio system with the help of audio experts at Bose, Bang & Olufsen and Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology. Audi Sound Concept has 62 speakers all over the SUV.
Five tweeters are located at the base of each speaker, 52 mid-range drivers are placed around the cabin in a 360-degree arrangement, four door-mounted subwoofers and one large, approximately 12-inch subwoofer in boot. The system was inspired by the Linden Lichtspiele cinema, Ilmenau, Germany. According to a press release, the theatre has 192 speakers and was built around the idea that a sound wave can still be created by multiple small sound sources located close together along the wave front.
It produces perfect sound, no matter where you sit in the theatre or SUV. The system can also play 32 audio tracks simultaneously. Peter Gleim, Audi’s infotainment specialist, says that there is no equivalent audio media on the market. “A few film studios have already produced films using the method.”
There is one problem: the huge amplifier in the trunk makes it impossible to store cargo. Apart from the amp, there is a host cables and three computers in the boot.
The system was developed in the EUR100,000. listening room and the EUR10,000,000 audio lab at Audi Headquarters in Ingolstadt. Wolfram Jahn, engineer, stated that none of our competitors has such a facility. The listening room is where we can examine the contents of a DVD or CD. Because your ears can quickly become accustomed to sounds and interpret them as interesting effects, this is crucial. We test our sample speakers blind. They can be compared to the best and our ears reset.”
