It’s not all about the destination. It’s about the journey.
Although we would expect to see the most powerful supercars on the Autobahn this video was quite enjoyable. According to the video description, any car will be featured on the channel, no matter how old, fast or electric.
The Mercedes still manages to accelerate despite having only 72 horsepower (54 kW). Although the car may not be as powerful as some others on TopSpeedGermany it is still very characterful and has a torquey diesel. The 190D, unlike most other videos on the Autobahn allows you to enjoy the ride up to its maximum speed of 111 mph (180 kph).
1973 Mercedes 280E is Remarkably Smooth, Doing 137 MPH on The Autobahn
The vehicle was slow, but it wasn’t too slow to reach its maximum speed. The speedometer can only go up to the maximum speed set by the manufacturer. This was a nice feature. Today, we see vehicles that are limited to 155 mph (250 km/h), but speedometers that reach 200 mph (321 km/h) all the time.
Although the Mercedes 190D is a wonderful piece of engineering in the video, it was often overshadowed by the Mercedes 190 E Cosworth. Although the E series didn’t have a lot of horsepower, it was a great car. The E series featured advanced technologies like a five-link rear suspension, aluminum headers and four valves per piston. These are all very common today but were not uncommon at the time. Which vehicle would you choose to take you up the Autobahn? Comment below.
