The new addition to the Giulia Range will be available in Paris with Alfa’s first all-aluminum diesel motor.
Alfa Romeo first introduced the “Veloce”, 60 years ago, with the classic Giulietta. Now the Giulia has the coveted moniker. The highly sought-after Giulia will be arriving in Paris next month with the brand’s new Q4 all-wheel drive system, which receives the engine’s power through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Buyers can choose from either a turbocharged gasoline engine of 2.0-liters or a turbodiesel unit of 2.2-liters. The first produces a healthy 280 horsepower (208kilowatts) at 5,250 RPM and has a maximum torque of 295 poundfeet (405 Newton-meters), starting at 2,250 RPM. The diesel mill can produce 210 hp (356 kW) at 3,500 RPM and 347 Lb-ft (477 Nm) at a low 1,750 RPM. It’s also the first Alfa Romeo diesel engine to be built entirely of aluminum.
Paris’s show cars will be adorned with a new Blue Misano paint for the gasoline-powered models, while the diesel model will have a Silverstone gray body. The Giulias will be sold only with the Giulia and GiuliaSuper trims. The sedan is designed to appeal to those who value fuel economy and will feature a 2.2-liter diesel engine that produces 180 horsepower (134 kW) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Alfa claims that the new Giulia member will consume just 4.2 liters/100 km in the combined cycle. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.
The Giulia Ae has a low-pressure exhaust gases recirculation valve (EGR), an air-water intercooler, custom gearbox ratios, and a secondary engine cooling circuit. Alfa has also reduced the car’s height by 5mm over the Giulia. It has also created alloy wheels with 205/60 R16 tires that have low rolling resistance. The low drag coefficient (0.03) of this thrifty variant is very impressive. It can sprint from 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.2 seconds before reaching a top speed (143 mph) of 230 kph.
Apart from the Giulia trio Alfa Romeo will also be showcasing in Paris the latest Giulietta, Mito and mid-engined 4C coupe and spider versions.
