To be exact, 150 pounds
The season of fall is upon us and people in northern latitudes have begun their winter preparations. People don’t only refer to human beings. One very active squirrel from North Dakota is determined not to die in the worst winter. He or she will be able to weather the coming winters thanks to a massive harvest of walnuts that weighed over 150 pounds. They were all kept in a Chevrolet Avalanche.
Although it’s not unusual to find nuts under the hoods of vehicles stored in storage, this squirrel did it better than anyone else. Bill Fischer owns this Chevy. According to the Grand Forks Herald HTML1, this walnut extravaganza took place in just a few short days. Fischer shared numerous photos on Facebook that showed 42 gallons worth of walnuts being pulled from the truck. The entire front clip of the truck had to be taken apart to remove the walnuts from the bumper and fenders. It’s not the work of one red squirrel, however.
Fischer commented on one of his posts that the walnut tree in his yard produced walnuts every two years and that for the past 16 years “the squirrel has been up 8-0.” Fischer also commented on one of his posts, saying that the walnut tree in his yard produces walnuts every other year. He said that the squirrel has been up 8-0 for 16 years. The Suny College of Environmental Science and Forestry states that American red squirrels live an average of three to five years. However, some may live up to 10 years. This red squirrel may be living a very happy life. Others have continued the tradition of packing nuts around Fischer’s house.
Animals behaving badly:
The story is not over. Fischer filled six buckets full of walnuts and told the Grand Forks Herald some walnuts were still inaccessible. The squirrel still has plenty of time to replenish its war chests, even though fall is just starting.
