It’s also available now.

Mercedes has unveiled the first factory-offered pop up camper for the United States, The Metris Weekender. The Caravan Outfitter Backroad camper van is available for those who want Mercedes luxury on their next camping trip. The Metris is also used, but it’s currently available. It’s also cheaper than the Weekender.

Our colleagues at New Atlas discovered that the Caravan Outfitters Backroad camper packs an enormous amount of amenities into a small van. Reimo’s folding three-seat bench can be folded into a double bed and the two other people can sleep in the pop-up tent. You can also slide the bench back and forth. The bench can be used as a bed or as seating. However, the front seats of the Weekend don’t move like the Weekend’s. This is one of the few differences in the campers.

The kitchen is located at the rear. It does not have a water system for now. The kitchen has a refrigerator, propane stovetop and lots of storage. Caravan Outfitter plans to offer an optional swing out sink option. A 90-Ah battery powers the van’s interior lighting and UBS ports. The Metris is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder, which produces 208 horsepower (155kilowatts). It pairs with a seven speed automatic gearbox.

The Metric Weekender price in the US is unknown, but it’s expected to be in the low $70,000-$70,000 range. The Backroad starts at $67,511, while the $3,400 kitchen increases that to $70.911. This should still be lower than the Weekender, as the Weekender’s base cost doesn’t include a fully equipped kitchenette. Caravan Outfitter also offers an optional solar roof panel, portable toilet and awning that will push the price up.
