Barrett-Jackson sold the original 1966 Batmobile for a staggering 4.62M USD.
The first Chevrolet Corvette Stingray sold for 1.1M USD. However, Rick Champagne, an Arizona car collector, purchased the Batmobile for four times that amount. Although the bid was at 4.2M USD (3.15M EUR or 2.6M GBP), an additional 420,000 USD in fees pushed the final price up to 4.62M USD.
Yesterday’s Barrett-Jackson auction was held in Scottsdale, Arizona. George Barris, the creator and owner of the car, was there. Ford gave him one dollar to buy the vehicle. He then spent 15,000 dollars to transform the 1955 Lincoln Futura idea into the Batmobile. This car starred alongside Adam West (Batman), and Burt Ward(Robin). The whole conversion took only 15 days.
