B&B Automobiltechnik engineers have created a three-stage power system for the 2014 Volkswagen Golf R.
The Volkswagen Golf VII R hatchback is already very powerful with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo putting out 300 HP (221kW) and 380Nm (280lb-ft). But B&B decided that they could improve these numbers by making a power kit to drive the all-wheel-drive range-topping Golf. The first stage of the upgrade program (1,298 EUR), which increases output to 360HP (265kW) and 450Nm (332lb-ft), by raising the charging air pressure and mapping the electronic injection characteristic map.
Stage 2 (3,950 EUR), with its 385 HP (283kW) and 480Nm (354lb-ft), is next. This was achieved by decreasing thermal load and installing an intermediate exhaust pipe with a sports catalyzer. The stage 3 kit costs 9,850 EUR and produces 420 HP (309kW) and 530Nm (391lb-ft). This is due to the tuner’s custom turbocharger, sports exhaust system, and modified air-suction.
With the six-speed manual gearbox, the stock Golf R can sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h), in just 5.1 seconds. The stage 2 kit takes 0.6 seconds. The 0-124 mph (0–200 km/h), time is cut from 19.3 seconds down to 17.5 seconds.
Additional goodies include an oil-cooling unit (985 EUR), performance springs (298 EUR), stabilizers (498 EUR), 20-inch wheels with 235/30 R20 tyres, and four- or six-piston brake calipers.
