Premature cracking could be caused by a defect in the paint.
You’ll be surprised at the inaccessibility of the Sunset Yellow Stinger color if you look at the headline. The reason is that the U.S. market received only 400 Sunset Yellow Stinger units – most of which were the first ones offered to customers. According to CarAdvice, owners living in the U.S. need to be careful with their paint.
According to Damien Meredith, chief operating officer of Kia Australia, the publication mentions that Kia Australia reached out to over 50 sedan customers to inform them about possible paint defects.
A bad batch of paint from the supplier can cause excessive cracking and flaking in Sunset Yellow Stinger sedans worldwide. Evidently, the oil in the paint caused the coat to become less durable.
“We have contacted all the owners. Meredith explained to the publication that there was an issue with the yellow oil residue. This could cause the yellow to crack more if it is hit by a stone chips, et cetera.
Kia will cover the cost of repainting the paint. Meredith stated that this is covered by a “global warrantee.” Kia also offers a lifetime guarantee. A CarAdvice automotive body technician said that the lifetime warranty and respray could run to $7,415. This is a large sum of money that an automaker would spend on one problem. It also shows how far Kia will go in order to satisfy customers.
It is not yet clear if the U.S. will recall affected models. Owners need to be vigilant about the quality of their paint until further developments are made.
