Volkswagen will be showcasing the New Midsize Coupe concept at Beijing Motor Show. This could indicate that a more sleeker Jetta is on the horizon.
Volkswagen envisions a “sport sedan” that will be positioned below the Passat, riding on the MQBB-B platform. The NMC is wider than the Passat but shorter than the Jetta. It has 20-inch wheels and 245 low-profile tries. The body is painted Dragon Red.
The New Midsize Coupe has a sleek profile that gives it a drag coefficient 0.29. However, it is practical and offers ample space for five people as well as a 500-liter cargo volume. The concept also reinterprets Volkswagen’s LED headlights, while the taillights have aluminum accents.
The engine is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder TSI engine that produces 220 PS (162 kW). It is transferred to the road via a seven-speed DSG. This allows the NMC to run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h), in 6.5 seconds, before reaching 151 mph (244 km/h). The concept is also said to be economical, returning 36.7 mpg US (or 6.4 liters/100 km).
Although no details are available about a possible production version, it is likely that such a model has been in development. However, it could be a China-only affair.
