Bentley Continental GT Sets a New Pikes Peak Record for Production Model

In 10:18.488 seconds, 156 corners.

Bentley declared in June that it will attempt to break the record for the fastest production vehicle at this year’s Pikes Peak. We were surprised to learn that the automaker was aiming to set new records, as it isn’t known for setting them. Bentley actually meant to be serious and the Continental GT won the hill climb race record on Sunday, 30 June.

A Production Version:

All the numbers for the record run are in and they are good. Rhys Millen was the driver of the car, and he managed to complete the 12.42-mile (19.98 km) course in 10:18.48888 minutes. This is 8.4 seconds faster than the previous record, and corresponds to an average speed of 70 miles per hour (112 km per hour).

Millen said, “This is an incredible finish to a snowy, wet 2019 Pikes Peak run.” We came here with one goal: to be the fastest production car on the mountain, and we did that by setting a new record. It was an amazing week. It was challenging today with Mother Nature’s challenges, but the Continental GT held firm all the way to top. We are now Number One.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb’s start line is located at 9,300 feet (2,835m). The course climbs approximately 5,000 feet (1,524m) through 156 corners. The air at the top is one-third denser than the air at sea level. This puts the 12-cylinder engine under pressure to get fresh air. The Conti GT used to record the record is still in stock form, with no modifications to its 626-hp (467 kW) W12.

“This record again shows that Bentley’s spirit of effort and desire to push the limits of automotive performance are still at its core.” It clearly shows the Continental GT’s amazing breadth of abilities,” Bentley’s Director for Motorsport, Brian Gush, said.
