Bentley has unveiled a new, sexy wood trim. The open-pore Walnut trim is made with the finest wood and a thin lacquer so you can still feel the natural grain.

Bentley’s personal commissioning division Mulliner will offer the finish on cars. Staff are charged with satisfying the needs of demanding customers.

Bentley explains that the open-pore walnut was created by combining the best of both American and European Walnut varieties.

The Bentley Headquarters in Crewe handcrafted the finish to enhance the large pores and reveal the wood’s intense dark color.

These trees are mostly planted in California by Bentley’s wood experts. They visit regularly to make sure that the best quality walnut veneer is chosen. This part of the process requires a four-day weekend in Las Vegas.

The veneer is carefully made from the textured portion of the tree burl. This section is located between the outer layer and inner core. It is then painted with three thin layers of lacquer. Together, they are only 0.1mm thick. Bentley compares the High Gloss lacquer coating to be 0.5mm thick. It has a shiny, smooth finish.

Each layer is applied manually and sanded between each application to ensure that the lacquer adheres to the wood’s natural grooves. According to the British classic carmaker, the result is wax-like. It perfectly highlights the walnut’s natural color and texture.

Bentley calls it a “sensuous new finish” and is available in the Flying Spur, Bentayga, and Mulsanne models.
