It seems like it will borrow the interior of the 2 Series Active Tourer.

A design update is in order for the third-generation BMW 1 Series. Recent spy shots reveal that BMW plans to make the model look fresher than ever. The car’s camouflaged exterior was visible in previous spy photos, but this latest set shows the interior. BMW tries to conceal the new cabin by covering it with cloth. The dash-mounted infotainment display screen looks almost identical to the one that was featured in the new HTML2 Series Active Tourer. New center console controls are featured on the new 1 Series. They also feature the gear selector nub from the new 2.

A redesigned exterior will be complemented by an updated interior that will likely include the latest iDrive 8 infotainment system. The 1 Series’ exterior will be given a complete overhaul, with thick camo and cladding. BMW hides many of the new styling details. However, the car seems to have a redesigned headlight interior and a new grille that sits over a new bumper. BMW will likely redesign the rear bumper and taillights. BMW will offer the 1 Series with different powertrains just like the current model, although it is unclear if BMW will make any modifications to the existing lineup. Spy shots show the M135i, a range-topping model, with a lower ride height and quad exhaust pipes sticking out of the back. The current engine , a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-4, produces 302 horsepower (225kilowatts). Although rumors are circulating about a plug-in hybrid engine, don’t expect it to be fully electric.

BMW has not yet set a date for the 1 Series’ debut, but we expect it to be revealed sometime in 2023. As BMW considers its future product line-up, the automaker is also unsure about the future of its small cars. BMW will need to make its vehicles more electrified due to increasing emissions regulations. This could prove difficult for small cars like the 1 Series.
