You can also see the Nordschleife hatchback.
The new BMW 1 Series will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It may also be available online. These spy shots capture the final laps of testing the new hatchback, and give us the best view of
BMW’s FAAR platform will be used to transport the new 1 Series. This will replace the UKL underpinnings that were used for BMW’s front wheel-drive vehicles. The base model will be the 118i, which is said to have a turbocharged 1.5-liter three cylinder that produces 138 horsepower (103kW) and a seven speed dual-clutch transmission. The hybrid powertrain will eventually be available with 221 horsepower (165 kW). The M135i is the top-of-the-line. It features a turbocharged 2.0 liter that produces 302 horsepower (225 kW). The 120d diesel is the entry-level model. It has a 2.0-liter engine that produces 190 horsepower (142 kW), and runs through an eight-speed dual clutch transmission.
These photos (above right) are particularly interesting as they seem to capture a lower trim of the 1 Series than the spy images from a Motor1.com reader. Most notable is the digital instrument display that appears on the older photos. The model in the latest shots has a digital display in the middle, but it also features two sections that can be used for analog instruments.
Take a look at the driver’s seat. In the photos above, you could see the extending thigh support that we would expect on a performance-oriented trim. This section is missing from the model in the most recent photos, which suggests that this is a lower-level trim.
However, the new 1 Series will not be available in the United States. The 2 Series Gran Coupe sedan, which will be built on the same platform, will be launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November . In the U.S., the four-door model will go on sale in mid 2020.
