Lightly refreshed has been the Gran Tourer, which seats seven.
BMW has given a new meaning to “discreet” by updating its mid-cycle minivan. This update is also the company’s first venture into front-wheel drive. The five-seat 2 Series Active Tourer as well as the seven-seat Gran Tourer will be getting Jucaro Beige or Sunset Orange paints. Six new alloy wheels, ranging in size from 17 to 19, are also available.
It can be difficult to see what has changed outside so we will save you time and point out the new features. The new LED headlights have a hexagonal design, in keeping with the latest BMWs. However, the back light-emitting diodes display different graphics. The LED fog lamps, the updated kidney grille and single-piece intake are also new.
The exhaust tips are now larger and BMW is happy to install dual exhaust systems on any of the four-cylinder models. The 2 Series Gran Tourer/Active Tourer has been updated to include the optional M Sport Package.
Although the minor cosmetic changes may not be enough for you to rush to your local BMW dealer and place an order immediately, there are more important news. A seven-speed, dual clutch Steptronic gearbox, along with the six-speed manual and eight-speed Steptronic, will now be available. You’ll receive a new selector lever when you choose one of these autos.
The minivan duo will also feature the latest iDrive. Buyers will have the option to choose from either a 6.5 or 8.8 inch touchscreen with voice control.
BMW engineers have optimized the turbocharger and crankshaft as well as the valve train and heat management to improve efficiency. The output of the Active Tourer ranges from 109 horsepower (80kilowatts), to 231 horsepower (170kW), and the Gran Tourer’s Gran Tourer, between 109hp (80kW) and 192hp (141kW). The 225xe hybrid plug-in 225xe model will provide fuel economy at a minimum. It can travel 28 miles (45 km) on electric juice, and it consumes as little as 2.3 liters/100 km (102.2 mpg) hybrid mode.
BMW will launch minivans in Europe this March, after having sold more than 380,000 pre-facelift units between 2014 and 2017.
