BMW 2 Series Coupe Receives M240i and Base 218i with Rear-Wheel Drive

BMW 2 Series Coupe Receives M240i and Base 218i with Rear-Wheel DriveThis summer, standard shift paddles as well as iDrive 8 will be new additions.

We’re still waiting for BMW’s much-hyped and highly anticipated M2 (G87) to come out, but the 2 Series Coupes are getting an update. The 218i, which is the cheapest of the two Series Coupes, will be arriving in Europe. It has 154 horsepower (115kilowatts) as well as 250 Newton-meters (284 pound-feet). The entry-level 2er is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, just like all other compact coupes.

The BMW 218i will not be breaking Nurburgring records as it takes 8.7 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to reach 62 mph (100 km/h). The 2 Series Coupe base model is part of a large summer update that also includes standard shift paddles for all four-cylinder versions to match the six-cylinder HTML240i xDrive. The M Performance model will be getting an update.

It has been a long wait but now the M240i will be available on the Old Continent in a lower price that eliminates the xDrive. The rear-wheel-drive M240i, which costs EUR56,000 and is already available in the BMW Deutschland configurator has a EUR2,000 discount. The compact sporty coupe takes an additional 0.4 seconds to sprint from 62 mph to 100 km/h. The job is done now in 4.7 seconds

BMW announces that all 2 Series Coupes produced starting July will be converted to the iDrive8, which features a curved glass housing a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment. It’s already available on the 2 Series Active Tourer minivan, as well as the M2. The 2 Series Gran Coupe is not yet in the running for it, but the Mercedes CLA competitor will soon.

BMW will add an Innovation Package and Comfort Package to the 2 Series Coupe Europe. The new RWD only M2, which will be the crown jewel in the lineup, will be available later this year. It is the only model to offer a manual transmission.
