America, look away! This one isn’t for you.
The availability of wagons and diesels in America is very limited, so a combination of both from BMW will be unlikely. This is especially true when you consider that the Bavarians have vetoed another Sports Wagon built on the current-generation 3er. However, the long-roof model continues to be sold in Europe, where it may get a diesel-powered version.
A report by our friends at BMWBLOG Their favorite brand will launch an M340dxDrive Touring in 2020 to replace the gasoline-powered M340i. The inside design would be almost identical, with the addition of a straight-six diesel 3.0-liter engine underneath. The engine, which is derived from the X3 and X4 M40d crossovers has 321 horsepower and a huge 501 pound-feet (680 Newton meters) of torque.
The report states that BMW will only sell the hot diesel as a wagon with xDrive. Although performance details are not available, the report claims that the BMW M340d xDrive Touring will be sold exclusively as a a href=”https://www.motor1.com/body-styles/wagon/”>wagon. The X3 M40d takes 4.9 seconds to do the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) and the M340d xDrive Touring may take 4.8 seconds. The engine will remain unchanged. This means that the full torque will kick in at 1,750 RPM. The straight-six will also have multi-stage turbocharging.
states that the diesel M Performance version the 3Series wagon will launch in Europe next month. We might also see it at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The gasoline version, which is available at EUR63,250 in Germany, will likely cost more. We wouldn’t be surprised if the M3 Touring is full-fat.
