March will be the start of sales.
The diesel-powered BMW M440dxDrive has been unveiled by the Bavarian firm. The automaker now has something to offer fans of electrified powertrains. It is offering entry-level PHEV models in the plug-in hybrid 3 Series and 5 Series.
The 320e and the 520e are the respective PHEV systems. It consists of a 2.0-liter gasoline motor with 163 horsepower (120kW) and an electric motor that produces 205 HP (150kW). BMW claims that the combination of the electric motor and combustion engine creates a brand-typical hybrid driving experience. It also delivers outstanding efficiency.
Standard form sends the power through an eight-speed auto to the rear wheels. However, an optional xDrive all wheel-drive system can be used. Depending on the variant, the plug-in hybrid powertrain produces a peak torque output of 258 poundfeet (353 Newton-meters). It provides an all-electric range between 31 to 38 miles (50-61 kilometers) for 320e and 32-38 miles (52-61 km) for 520e.
The new PHEV powertrain is available in both sedans and station wagons for the 3 Series and 5 Series. The 12.0-kWh battery can be charged with up to 3.4kW in just 2.6 hours, and full power in approximately 3.6 hours.
Although performance is not expected to be record-breaking, the 320e can reach speeds of 62 miles an hour (100 km per hour) in 7.6 seconds in a non xDrive form (7.9 seconds with the wagon). The sprint will be completed by the larger 520e in 7.9 seconds (8.2 seconds for the wagon).
The March market launch of the new 320e/520e electric cars is planned. If you are a resident in Germany, you will be able register them as electric vehicles. You will receive special rights on the public roads and free parking in certain areas. Two plug-in BMWs will receive a 50% reduction in company car taxes and will comply with the requirements of the country’s EV incentives.
